Woonasquatucket River Greenway

Olneyville, Providence, RI - 2025

~ 75 ft x 15 ft.

This mural was created with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway- an urban bike path reclaiming space for people, river-life, plants, and safer more eco-friendly ways to move through the city.

One Greenway project along the river running by Gotham Greens focused on restoring habitat by planting native, pollinator-friendly flowers along the path. This mural grows directly out of that effort, featuring Black-eyed Susans and Goldenrod, two resilient local species planted nearby to support bees, butterflies, and a healthier river ecosystem.

During the project, a day was dedicated to inviting volunteers from the local community to jump in and paint with me. Opening the process to others was a very meaningful part of the work- sharing time, labor, and authorship. Seeing the mural take shape through many hands reinforced what public art can do at its best: create space for participation, care, and collective presence.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out to help paint that day!!

Painted as a reminder that care, beauty, and ecological repair belong in public space.
