FUTURE STORIES: BLACK LOCUST

Freehand painting application.

Future Stories: Black Locust is a utility box mural created for 195 District Park in collaboration with The Avenue Concept. As part of an all-female, POC artists cohort, we were invited to create public art in response to Providence’s Climate Justice Plan .

To accompany this piece I wrote:

“I imagine Black Locust trees that are planted today, in 2025. Black Locust trees are a popular choice for tree plantings in our frontline communities as they are resilient, grow quickly, have rot-resistant hardwood, and are a beautiful flowering species. I am inspired by the Climate Justice Plan Report and create my own Future Story that illustrates what the Black Locust trees planted today will grow to become by 2040.”

Set within a shared public landscape, this piece invites viewers to pause and consider how climate justice can live not only in policy, but in imagination, time, and everyday space.
